Embracing a new beginning

Aloha, I’m Amber Souza, the artist of Kuahiwi Designs! Whether you're new here, or remember me from Etsy, I'm grateful for your support.

After five years on Etsy—where I reached over 4,000 sales, gathered nearly 1,000 glowing reviews, and ranked in the top 96.9% of shops—my shop was shut down due to an issue verifying my married name. It’s been heartbreaking, especially after mentoring two cohorts of Native Hawaiian Etsy shop owners, guiding them to the very platform that has now let me down.

So, while my Etsy shop is on hold, I've built this website to keep moving forward.

I'm reminded of something my Kumu shared after a 5am hiʻuwai with my hula sisters: labeling experiences as “good” or “bad” is a Western mindset. As the cold water rushed up our legs, the shock felt harsh and unwelcomed. But when we stopped resisting what felt "bad"—when we embraced the cold—we opened ourselves up to something deeper, something new.

So perhaps losing my Etsy shop (hopefully temporarily) isn’t “bad”. Perhaps it's just the cold water, waking me up to a new path and fresh beginning. Thank you for standing by me as I embrace this change!
